The Snow Plow Sidewalk Crew Member is responsible for clearing snow, ice, and other debris
from sidewalks, walkways, and pedestrian areas in a timely and efficient manner. This role is
essential in maintaining safe and accessible walkways for the public during the winter months.
Key Responsibilities:
Ability to operate heavy machinery and equipment.
Snow and Ice Removal: Operate snow plows, snow blowers, and shovels to remove
snow, ice, and slush from sidewalks, walkways, curb ramps, and public pathways.
De-icing: Apply salt de-icing agents to prevent ice accumulation and ensure safe walking
conditions.
Equipment Operation: Safely operate snow plowing and snow removal equipment,
ensuring proper maintenance and handling.
Quality Control: Inspect cleared areas to ensure sidewalks are adequately cleared and
meet safety standards.
Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols, including wearing personal protective
equipment (PPE), safe operation of machinery, and following traffic and pedestrian
safety guidelines.
Team Coordination: Work closely with other crew members to ensure effective and
coordinated snow removal efforts, especially during snowstorms and adverse weather
conditions.
Documentation: Report weather conditions, equipment issues, and other relevant
information to the supervisor or team leader.
Physical Labor: Perform manual labor such as shoveling snow and lifting materials, as
required.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Previous experience in snow removal, landscaping, or construction preferred.
Ability to operate snow plowing equipment (training may be provided).
Ability to work in cold, winter conditions for extended periods.
Strong physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects.
Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record (if operating vehicles).
Familiarity with safety procedures and proper use of de-icing chemicals.
Working Conditions:
Outdoor work in cold, snowy, and sometimes hazardous conditions.
Early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holiday shifts, depending on the weather.
Extended shifts may be required during significant snowstorms or inclement weather.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to walk, bend, kneel, and stand for extended periods.
